Science Probe I Technology Activities
Chapter 22
Internet
Conduct an Internet search to find information about the
soil in your area and three other regions of your choice or as directed
by your teacher. Find out:
a.What nutrients are present (organic content)?
b.What nutrient or other substances must be added for optimum plant
growth?
c.How well water travels through the soil (percolates)?
d.What types and amounts of different particle sizes?
e.What is the depth of the topsoil and subsoil?
f.What is the average depth to bedrock?
It might also be helpful to correspond through e-mail or
talk in a web discussion site with a soil scientist. Prepare a presentation
using multimedia application software to share your information with classmates.
Below is a web site to get you started:

Activity 22A – Use a word processing
program to answer the questions in this activity. At the end of the chapter,
check these answers as directed in this activity and make additional comments
or additions as necessary. Transfer this document into a presentation
program, and share your answers with classmates. Print the letter; then
secure it in your SCIENCE PROBE Logbook.
Activity 22D – Use a word processing
program to create an advertisement for the composting project. Print the
advertisement, duplicate it, and distribute it throughout the school.
