William H. Leonard is Professor of Education and Biology at Clemson University, Clemson, SC. He began his career in science education as a biology teacher at Piedmont Hills High
School in San Jose, California. Dr. Leonard is the recipient of many awards for his teaching and work with students, including the AMOCO Distinguished Teaching Award from the University
of Nebraska and the Provost Research Award from Clemson University. He has over 100 research and teaching publications.

John E. Penick is Head of the Department of Math Science and Technology Education at North Carolina State University. A former high school biology and chemistry teacher in Miami,
Florida, he is the author or co-author of more than 200 articles and chapters. He has been awarded two OHAUS awards for teaching excellence in physics and biology, and in 1987,
he was named the AETS Outstanding Educator in the United States. Dr. Penick was the 1989 president of the National Association of Biology Teachers.
