Distance Learning: FAQs About WebCT

Q: What is WebCT?
A: WebCT (Web Course Tools) facilitates the creation of web-based instructional settings by providing educational tools to facilitate learning, interactivity, communication and collaboration; administrative tools to assist the instructor in managing and continuously improving courses; and a design interface for the presentation of courses (color schemes, page layout, etc).

Q: What is a WebCT Course?
A: A WebCT course is a shared, password-protected online environment for a single class section. A WebCT course is created for you when you make a syllabus and link it to your class. You can outfit your WebCT course with assorted tools and information to share via the Web with the students enrolled in your class.

Q: What is a Student Access Code?
A: It is a series of letters and numbers that allows you to access content, called an e-Pack, that your instructor has chosen. Once an instructor adopts an e-Pack, students gain access to the content by purchasing student access codes. Student Access Codes are often confused with Global IDs or WebCT IDs, but they are not the same thing.

Q: How do I adjust my browser setting to access WebCT?
A: To access WebCT you will need to use Netscape 4.x or greater OR Internet Explorer 4.x or greater. Customized browsers (like AOL or @home) are not recommended. You will also need to adjust your browser settings to accept cookies, enable Java, and set the cache to reload on every page.

Q: Whom do I contact for general help with WebCT?
A: Customer Care, http://www.webct.com/customer, is the springboard to a wide range of resources and support for WebCT users, including an interactive question-and-answer service, product documentation, technical support, download and license key information, and answers to FAQs about WebCT.
