Distance Learning: FAQs About Blackboard

Q: What is Blackboard.com?
A: Built on Blackboard's industry-leading e-Education platform, the course creation service enables instructors to add an online component to their classes—bringing learning materials, class discussions, and tests online—or to teach an entire course on the Web.

Q: How do I access a course Web site that I created?
A: Please go to the Blackboard.comSM home page, http://www.blackboard.com/, and click on My Blackboard.comSM. Click on "Login," then enter your user name and password. From here, you will be provided a list of all the courses in which you are involved (as either an instructor or a student). Just click on the course you want to enter.

Q: How do I access a course Web site in which I have enrolled?
A: Please go to the Blackboard.comSM home page, http://www.blackboard.com/, and click on My BlackboardSM. Click on "Login," then enter your user name and password. From here, you will be provided a list of all the courses in which you are involved (as either an instructor or a student). Just click on the course you want to enter.

Q: How do I change my password?
A: First, log in to your course Web site. After you have entered the course Web site, click on Tools located in the left navigational bar. Click on Personal Information and then Change Password. Enter your new password, verify the new password, and click Submit. Your new password will be in effect once you log out of your course Web site.

Q: What do I do if I forget my password?
A: Due to security reasons, we cannot supply you with your existing password. In order to receive a new password, please go to the home page, http://www.blackboard.com/, click on My Blackboard.comSM, then "Login." This will take you to a login page with a link labeled "Forgot your password?" Click this link and you will be asked to enter your name and user ID or your name and email address. You will receive an email message with instructions to make the password change. Your existing password will remain active until you respond to the email.

Q: How do I get support for a registered course on Blackboard.com?
A: Students should contact their instructor for support. Instructors can go to the Control Panel of the course and click on "Online Support." This will take you to a form where you can submit a request directly to our support team. Only requests submitted via this form will be handled. Phone support is not available. You are also welcome to use the online support site at http://www.support.blackboard.com, where you will find users’ guides, tips sheets, and other useful information.

Q: What browsers does Blackboard.com support?
A: Currently, Blackboard recommends Internet Explorer 5.5 or Netscape 4.78. JavaScript and Cookies must be enabled.
